1979 Fender USA Precision bass in sunburst
I bought this bass from the original owner back in 2011. He had bought it new in the late 1970’s and used it extensively with his band – all the aging is genuine and unique. The bass had never been apart. I was the first person to see the insides since it left the factory in 1979! It was like opening up an old vault and I felt quite privileged. I’ve got pictures of all of the insides. I’ve also got a letter of authenticity signed by the original owner detailing some of the bass’s history including recordings and TV appearances. The letter and all history will come with the bass but I’ve decided not to mention it here because of privacy etc.
As you would expect, everything with this bass checks out 100% – it has the serial number sticker under the pickguard which matches the one on the headstock and also on the owners manual. The pots dated to the 6th week of 1979 so would have been completed early that year. The pick ups are dated “79”, as is the body in the pick up cavity. The trussrod screw had no signs of ever been turned and is like new. The truss rods turns smoothly and works as it should. The neck is super-straight. I’ve had the frets dressed and polished and done a few adjustments, but that’s it.
