I’ve owned this bass before, back in 2009, and it’s a really good instrument so was happy to be able to get it back again.
It’s on a “S9” serial number but I knew it was from 1981. In that year Fender offered 3 new finishes – Sienna Sunburst, Cherry Sunburst and Brown Sunburst. Sienna and Cherry were by far the most popular and you do see these fairly often. Less common is the Brown Sunburst – I’ve only seen one other. The effect is quite subtle, at first glance it could just be regular sunburst, but the brown is noticeable when you look for it.
This is a lovely looking bass in great condition. All 100% original. Pots date to 1981, soldering untouched, serial number sticker in the neck pocket which matches the one on the headstock and all as it should be. The body is particularly good, and the neck has a few marks on the fingerboard but the back is almost perfect. All in all, a really good vintage Precision in a rare colour.
