USA Fender Precision Bass in Natural Ash with maple neck 100% original
The bass has a serial number starting S9 and it’s very common for these to be advertised as “a 1979 bass” but it’s well documented that S9 serial numbers covered the years 1978 to 1982, and the only reliable way to discover its true age is to date the components. This bass dates to 1982 (The pots are dated 1981 but the neck is 1982)
I originally bought this bass in 2012 and for about 5 years it was in my own collection as it’s a particularly good bass, all original and also has a very slim neck – definitely the slimmest I’ve ever encountered on a bass from this era, and by a long way. Feels lovely to play! I eventually sold it, but had the chance to buy it back recently which I did. Everyone who’s played immediately comments on the neck and the amazing clear, bright, bell-like tone.
The body is Ash and is a dense wood which is why it’s sort after for the superior tone is gives, the downside is that it’s heavy – weighs in at 11lbs, which is not the heaviest I’ve come across from this era! Apart from the tone advantage, it also balances well on a strap with no neck dive.
