Cairnes Stag Bass in hard case
The bass is a hand built by luthier Jim Cairnes who was based in the North East of England. Made 10 years ago.
He initially designed the pick ups for the guitar company Burns and also worked as the guitar tec for Chris Rea who also uses (used?) his pick ups in his Stratocasters.
I’ve read he’s also made guitars for the Shadows and the Eagles, and also the iconic colt 45 shaped guitars, (Currently there’s one for sale on ebay at £11,995!) however, he made others too and this is one of his own designed basses which features his trademark, narrow waist bodies. It has a three piece neck with a maple finger board, the body might be poplar or alder….
It is finished in a translucent blue finish. The hardware is high end Schaller, semi enclosed tuners and matching heavy bridge (these items alone are expensive) the single soap bar pickup is a Cairnes custom one, a humbucker, but it has a coil tap switch which gives a fair tonal range for a passive bass, single volume and tone control.
The guitar is in excellent condition and is fitted with almost new, LaBella custom flatwound strings and is fully serviced and set up. It comes with a Hard case.
The craftsmanship is superb, as is the great attention to detail.
