Fender Nate Mendel Precision
I’ve not had one of these before but was aware of them. They’re popular basses……
It’s based on Nate Mendel’s (From the Foo Fighters) Candy Apple Red 1971 P bass which had been modified by him.
So, Bad Ass bridge, Quarter pounder pick ups, nut width between a Jazz and a Precision and a slim neck – feels very comfortable and nice to play. Period correct Big TV logo on the headstock. Weighs 9.2lbs so quite a 1970’s weight too!
The Candy Apple finish is worth a mention – it’s a clear red lacquer sprayed over a metallic gold base coat. This is unusual as normally Fender use a silver base coat. The result is a deep, darker than normal finish which I really like. It’s all in Nitrocellulose too.
The aging is very good – a better standard than on the Roadworn series, IMO. Not overdone and very convincing.
The pick ups are very powerful and the tone of the bass is good, would really cut through well in any mix.
This example comes with the original gig bag, plus all extras (including a double F Foo Fighters neck plate) and is properly set up with a recent set of strings. Zero fret wear, as good as when it left the factory…..Made in Mexico
