This brand new Sandberg Superlight has just arrived, never had one before, and wow, I’m super-impressed….
It’s a Sandberg California II TM4 Superlight in matt black. This is a very new version where the body is made from Paulownia wood. This is a very light wood but has great resonance and attack.
The first Superlight’s were made from Cedar – these were still very light but the wood had a very open grain and didn’t wear particularly well. This new wood is a big improvement. Obviously still softer then alder or ash, but not that you’d really notice. Also, Sandberg supply a transparent sticker to go above the pick up if you wanted extra protection from thumb marks etc
The neck on this one is made from flame maple with a Norway maple fretboard. The contrast in colours between the 2 woods is lovely, and the fretboard has nice figuring which makes it unusual and unique.
