Here’s a lovely fretless bass, it’s a 1984 Westone Thunder Fretless 1A Made in Japan at the Matsumoku factory.

The Thunder’s were extremely popular back in the day, as they were so well made and priced well too. There are still plenty for sale today, but you don’t see many fretless versions.

This one is particularly nice. Finished all over in high gloss black (including the neck, most were plain wood which isn’t as nice IMO) it’s set off with a particularly dark fretboard – looks expensive and exotic!

The quality of construction is easy to see, little features like metal insets for the screws which hold the battery compartment lid in place, the solid brass knobs and bridge, it’s lovely bass and ready for the next 42 years.

Being black it has picked up a few marks here and there, but nothing bad and no cracks.

Neck is nice and straight, truss rod works well and has a new set of flatwounds on.

Comes with a gig bag.
